It converts a compatible Sentinel XL system, such as the Sentinel XL HP PAPR Base Kit or a Sentinel XL CBRN system, to a BioShield full hood HP configuration for infectious-disease protection.
The BioShield full hood was designed in collaboration with leading healthcare organizations to meet their respiratory protection needs for Ebola protection. It has an assigned protection factor (APF) of 1,000, or 100 times the protection of an N95, and requires no fit testing.
The protective hood and its sewn and taped seams pass ASTM F1670-14 and ASTM F1671-13 testing, which the CDC requires for protection against synthetic blood and blood-borne pathogen penetration. Internal and external skirts interface with most protective suits. PAPR airflow vents between the two skirts, and the skirt and exhaust system inflates the suit for improved protection and comfort. The hood has an ultra-clear PET visor and a cushioned head strap that supports a wide range of wearers in a single size.
The BioShield full hood can also be used with S-4012 OV/AG/HE cartridges (sold separately) for hazardous-drug protection, and the Sentinel XL HD BioShield Full Hood PAPR Conversion Kit pairs the same hood with OV/AG/HE cartridges. Replacement BioShield full hoods are available in packs of 3 and packs of 25, and HP conversion kits are also available for the head cover and clear hood.

Which Sentinel XL conversion kit do I need?
A conversion kit changes what a Sentinel XL protects against without replacing the system. The blower, battery and waist belt stay in place, and you swap the head top and the cartridges.

Every kit fits the same Sentinel XL blower. The blower, battery and waist belt are not included, so you need an existing system or the Sentinel XL HP PAPR Base Kit. The four HP and HD kits supply the S-4005 breathing tube; the CBRN kit's breathing tube is part of the butyl hood and the kit also includes the CBRN CAP 2 user's manual. All head tops are single size, loose fitting, latex free and need no fit testing. These are air-purifying configurations that do not supply oxygen, so none are for use in oxygen-deficient atmospheres. NIOSH approvals apply to complete assemblies: use each kit only in the Sentinel configurations listed on the approval label, and follow the user instructions.
