It is approved at a CBRN CAP 2 rating with a 10,000 LRPL and is designed to protect against military warfare agents, biological threats, industrial chemical threats and nuclear particulate threats. The Sentinel XL CBRN is the only loose-fitting PAPR designed to deliver a CAP 2 rating, and its CBRN cartridges provide twice the gas and vapor service life of CAP 1 cartridges.
The Standard configuration ships with the Sentinel duffel bag for storing and transporting the complete system. The single-size, lay-flat butyl hood requires no fit testing and stows easily with the other components. For hands-free deployment, the same system is available as the Sentinel XL CBRN Deluxe PAPR System with Rechargeable NiMH Battery, which adds the NIOSH-approved Sentinel XL Backpack.
The rechargeable NiMH battery pack has a nominal run time of up to 8 hours, approximately 500 charge/discharge cycles and a 5-hour recharge time. The included smart battery charger switches automatically to trickle charge and shows its status with a red/green LED. The battery pack snaps directly onto the blower, a design that reduces snagging potential and aids decontamination. The same configuration is also available with an alkaline battery pack.
The Sentinel XL blower platform supports both decon and infectious-disease applications. With a Sentinel XL HP conversion kit for the head cover, clear hood or BioShield full hood, each supplied with HEPA cartridges, the same blower can be used for infectious-disease protection, reducing costs and simplifying equipment inventory.

The same blower also supports infectious disease and hazardous drug work: an HP head cover, HP clear hood, HP BioShield or HD BioShield conversion kit changes the hood and cartridges. These systems are air-purifying and do not supply oxygen, so they are not for use in oxygen-deficient atmospheres. NIOSH approvals apply to complete assemblies: use the system only in the configurations listed on the approval label, and follow the user instructions.
