The BioShield™ Full Hood was designed in collaboration with leading healthcare organizations for Ebola protection. It has an assigned protection factor (APF) of 1,000, or 100 times the protection of an N95, and requires no fit testing.
The protective hood and its sewn and taped seams pass ASTM F1670-14 and ASTM F1671-13 testing for synthetic blood and blood-borne pathogen penetration. Internal and external skirts interface with most protective suits. PAPR airflow vents between the two skirts, and the skirt and exhaust system inflates the suit for improved protection and comfort. The hood has an ultra-clear visor and a cushioned head strap that supports a wide range of wearers in a single size.
The alkaline battery pack holds standard D-cell batteries, which increases readiness: there is nothing to charge, and the pack is rated for a nominal 10 hours per set of five batteries. A low-voltage alarm with a flashing LED and buzzer alerts the wearer.
The Sentinel XL with BioShield hood is also NIOSH approved with OV/AG/HE cartridges (S-4012, sold separately) for respiratory protection against hazardous drugs. The Sentinel XL platform can also be converted to support hospital decon operations with the S-5000-05 CBRN conversion kit.
