The BioShield full hood was designed in collaboration with leading healthcare organizations to meet their respiratory protection needs for Ebola protection. It has an assigned protection factor (APF) of 1,000, or 100 times the protection of an N95, and requires no fit testing.
The protective hood and its sewn and taped seams pass ASTM F1670-14 and ASTM F1671-13 testing, which the CDC requires for protection against synthetic blood and blood-borne pathogen penetration. Internal and external skirts interface with most protective suits. PAPR airflow vents between the two skirts, and the skirt and exhaust system inflates the suit for improved protection and comfort. The hood has an ultra-clear PET visor and a cushioned head strap that supports a wide range of wearers in a single size.
The alkaline battery pack holds five standard D-cell batteries, which increases readiness: there is nothing to charge, and the pack is rated for a nominal 10 hours per set. The rugged, dual-chamber Sentinel XL blower delivers more than 230 lpm in HP hood systems, and a low-voltage alarm with a flashing LED and buzzer alerts the wearer.
The Sentinel XL blower platform supports infectious-disease, hazardous-drug and CBRN applications. A single system accommodates HEPA and OV/AG/HE filters: for hazardous-drug protection, the BioShield full hood can be used with S-4012 OV/AG/HE cartridges (sold separately). For hospital decon operations, the Sentinel XL CBRN PAPR Conversion Kit converts the same blower to a NIOSH CBRN CAP 2 configuration. The HP system is also available with a head cover or clear hood.

Each head top works with HEPA cartridges for infectious disease protection or OV/AG/HE cartridges for hazardous drug protection. These systems are air-purifying and do not supply oxygen, so they are not for use in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.
